Narrian Calendar
The Narrian calendar was developed several centuries ago and is widely used throughout
the civilized world. Each year is divided into two six-month periods. The first six months
of a year belong to Ce-Lai, the goddess of light and are called the Rising Months. The
second six months of a year are the province of the Lord of Darkness and are called the
Descending Months.
The year is further divided into seasons. Seasons contain three months, and one
holiday. A season officially begins on its holiday and will continue through the next
three months ending on the last day of the third month. The season of winter is commonly
called the Season of Water. Spring is referred to as the Season of Earth. Summer is known
as the Season of Fire. The Season of Air is the name for autumn.
A total of twelve months make up the Narrian year. Each month carries the name of a god
whose aspect is part of that month. Each month is exactly 28 days (four weeks) long and
the individual days of the week are referred to by their number. The calendar itself works
as such:
- The Rising Months, the time of Ce-Lai
- Season: Second two-thirds of winter, the Season of Water.
- Tarkahnan Rising: This is the name given to the first month of the year. The Lord of the
Winter looks upon the coming year and he begins the world's spin anew.
- Month of Meenon: With the first noticeable return of light, Meenon, goddess of knowledge
helps the coming spring along.
- Kreegor Rising: The third month of the year belongs to the god of storms and high
adventure. Warm spring rains nourish the waking earth. Being what is usually the first
warm month of a year it's the month that most adventurers leave their homes.
- Season: Spring, the Season of Earth begins with the holiday known as
the Earth's Renewal. Followers of the Earth Mother plant flowers and participate in
rituals dedicated to the coming spring the world over.
- Month of Celis: What was planted on Earth's Renewal finds it's bloom in this month.
Celis, goddess of the moon guides the world in the gradual changes that will lead to the
coming summer.
- Juggorahm Rising: This final month of spring is when wars
are traditionally begun, thus it is dedicated to Juggorahm, god of war.
- Auros Rising: Auros, god of the sun starts the summer off by smiling his life-giving
countenance down on Iridor. This is the last month of Ce-Lai's time and as such is her
most glorious as she blesses Auros with more time in the sky than Celis to shed light upon
the world.
- Season: Summer, the Season of Fire finds it start on the holiday of Fire's Burning. This
is the longest day of the year and is a day of festivals all over Narria. It is also the
day that the Brotherhood of the Broken Wall holds it's conclave.
- The Descending Months, the time of the Lord of Darkness
- Season: The last two thirds of summer, the Season of Fire.
- Auros Descending: The sun god's second aspect takes
control as the hottest days of the year begin. Auros's more destructive side is known to
cause drought and bring about the wild fires on the plains.
- Month of Mynon: Meenon's twin, Mynon, god of discipline and learning
patrons this month. It is the time when university sessions begin and when apprenticeships
start.
- Kreegor Descending: Kreegor's stormier aspect controls this month. The most violent
weather of the year occurs here. It is also the month that many an adventurer finds his
home for the coming winter.
- Season: Autumn, the Season of Wind takes its place in the year with the Day of Blowing
Wind. This is a day marked with the first of the Descending feasts and is followed quickly
by the times of harvest.
- Month of Pymor: Pymor, Celis darker ego takes this month. It is the time of the greatest
change as the green of the grass fails and the leaves fall. This month also marks the
birth of the Order of the Singers as well as the start and end of the undead wars.
- Juggorahm Descending: Warriors and warlords cease their art this month as the true cold
weather descends. Wars traditionally cease altogether for this month.
- Tarkahnan Descending: The god of winter and night takes hold of the world with
ice and snow. It is believed that Tarkahnan helps the dead to their final destination this
month and he freezes the world to show respect and mourning for not only the dead, but for
the death of another year.
- Season: Winter, the Season of Water starts with the holiday that is called, the Day of
Ice. This is the longest night of the year and it is spent in prayer for the coming year.
